BUT THEN... I get these dumber than crap subsidy authors come in and want their (more likely than not) piece of drek carried in the store and don't understand WHY we don't or can't carry their book.
Tonight, a poet came in to push his book. From THIS publisher. According the web site, they've got eleven authors. According to Books in Print, they've only got two authors in print... and hey, look, they're the president and vice president of the company.
I spent about thirty minutes explaining WHY he needed to get his book into Books in Print, as well as Ingram and Baker & Taylor. I did sell him a copy of one of those writer's magazines. I should adopt the IceMaiden attitude of A., "it's not my responsibility to get your book into our store."
Part of me likes helping authors. Another part enjoys implying "Get an agent and a real publisher, moron."
