I hate the word "community." Usually, it's a catchall for a diverse group of people who've got one thing in common, and that's it. The Black Community. The Latino Community. The Irish Community. The Gay Community. Great umbrealla term, eh?
I think the main reason I hated it was that I never felt I belonged to any community... until yesterday.
The LJ Community. At one point, on yesterday's friends feed, twelve of my twenty were about HST. All of us impacted, some more than others, by this man's passing. The electronic equivalent of gathering at a bar and toasting him. We're all across the continent and we're all feeling a loss of some degree, and we're all "friends" or friends of friends. A network. A community.
For the first time in a while, I felt belonged.
