I tried watching Agent Carter tonight on Hulu, taking a brief break from my seventies viewing.  Perry liked it- he's a fan of Hayley Atwell - big Pillers of the Earth and Mansfield Park fan there- so we might give it another try.  But there was something missing for me.
It was like it wasn't set in 1946, it was set on planet LA Confidential, there's a hollowness about the past that bothers me.  This was most obvious with the incident at Roxxon.
Added to the Marvel-verse in the seventies, part of The Serpent Crown Saga- one of the first storylines I read as a youngster, Roxxon was a stand in for Exxon.  Kind of like how everyone in DC comics drinks "Soder Cola".  Good enough.  Except, in 1946, there was no Exxon.  It was Standard Oil, founded by John D. Rockefeller.   During the Serpent Crown storyline, the president of Roxxon, Hugh Jones,  was possed by an ancient artifact, the Serpent Crown.  The Crown allowed him to communicate with other wearers of the crown- including an alternate realities president, Nelson Rockefeller- just in case readers hadn't picked up the subtle Roxxon/Exxon thing,
(Oh, God, kill me... this is why I hate wikipedia.  Apparently the Roxxon of the time, in Marvel was called Republic Oil and Gas.)
