Well, last night was my quarterly psycho post. Glad I got that out of the way early. From here til New Year's it's neurotic writer BS or vitrolic bookseller venting.

I picked up Columbo on DVD today. Textbook perfect plotting. To watch is to learn from the masters. Too bad I've set most of my genre stuff aside.

Damn George Lucas. Star Wars should not be a work in progress. It shouldn't be some "evolving opus." None of this Greedo shot first crap.
I saw this film with my parents at a drive in and with my grandmother at Military Circle. How DARE George Lucas tamper with my childhood.
Yes, I suppose it could be argued that the original films are still out there. I've got the vhs. And even that had been THX'd and cleaned up.
I still have my memories, and really, the strong points are the WHO rather than the what... at the drive in, it was in my dad's red Plymouth. The upholstry had a scent... and I'd forgotten all about that until now. My grandmother made us leave before the credits, as the "group pose" on Yavin was going on... and I'd forgotten about that, too. I suppose, maybe Lucas isn't completely wrong, because instead of remembering his movie, I'm remembering the time spent with loved ones. And that he can't ever touch.
