Constantine
Feb. 9th, 2005 08:44 pmWell, the bit about the Dreamking was gratuitous, and I could have done with out the "cameos" of the mysterious goth girl with an ankh, but it wasn't too bad.
Just messing with you.
It's like come one in Vertigo world found JC's diary and decided to make it into a movie... Hollywood style. "British? To artsy... let's move him to LA."
Rachel Weisz is kind of wooden, but she's a cop. Rationalist.
Keanu is wooden, becuse, he's... well Keanu. But it works with the keeping secrets attitude of JC.
Gwen Stefani's husband's great as a smarmy demon, while Tilda Swinton was lovely as Gabriel.
The story is a hodgepodge of elements snagged from the Exorcist and the plot is loosely taken from the Dangerous Habits storyline ( http://www.dccomics.com/graphic_novels/?gn=1612 ). The whole thing actually did a nice balance between not offending the die-hards and being accessable for newcomers. I could have done without the toys- like the Crucifix shotgun flamethrower, but really it's Hollywood, right?
7 on a scale of one to ten.
