Mar. 3rd, 2005 09:53 pmSo, I've been doing some reading... apparently Attorney General Alberto Gonzales isn't only pro-torture, but he's anti-pron.
I'm glad he's got his priorities straight.
It's beginning to feel so 1953 out there sometimes.

BTW- if you click "porn" up there... it takes you to Adult Video News. I've added it to the newsfeed on my main livejournal page as well. Fascinating stuff.
I don't actually watch porn, having neither the time nor the inclination, but the behind the scenes stuff is... fascinating.
It all began when I picked up a copy of Legs McNeil's The Other Hollywood:The Uncensored Oral History of the Porn Film Industry.
It starts in the late sixties with the end of burlesque and the beginning of nudie films, into the early seventies and the early films like Deep Throat- returning soon to theaters near you!- up into the current gonzo era of porn. One stand out in the narrative is Sharron Mitchell. She's there from the early seventies and was in the industry as a performer up until the midnineties, when she got out after an attack and got her degree. Now she's a medical adviser to the industry. She's a doctor. Phd, yeah, but a doctor. That so rocks.
You've got people like her, you've got the FBI, the mob. Heros. Villans. Losers. Winners.
Dr Mitch is one of the winners.

Another fascinating fact in The Other Hollywood is the fact that apparently the mob was involved in the distribution of the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre- not the production, mind you, but the getting it into the theatres part of the industry. According to one of the FBI agents, part of every ticket purchased during it's original run went to the mob.
Wacky, eh?
