The new Miss Marple sounds like June Foray.
She's old. And British. So that's a couple of points in her favour.
But she's no Joan Hickson.
Joan Hickson WAS Miss Marple. No Question. No Discussion.
Fact, carved in titanium.
God. I'm like some weird Angelophilac Trekkie. Except the Kirk/Picard discussion always struck me as silly. And my Bond was always George Lazenby- hey, he was the one who ended up with Diana Rigg.
Heh. Joanna Lumley is part of the cast of a couple of these Marples. I never saw The New Avengers, because, honestly, after Diana Rigg, what's the point. I did love Lumley in Absolutely Fabulous, tho. Karen on Will & Grace could take notes.

This new Miss Marple is too spry. I appreciate the production style... Fifties postwar versus thirties era. Done wide screen. Ah, BBC period pieces. Cars. Costumes.
--
The thing about Agatha Christie on BBC is the fact that it's comfortable. I've already read most of the books, so I know the stories. They've takes a few liberties but not as many as, say, the most recent adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express- dot com millionaires? Please.
The flashbacks to Miss Marple's youth are a new twist.

For some reason, I've an overwhelming urge to fix a pot of tea.

And again... the trailer for the new Sherlock Holmes series. Rupert Everett. Nice. Six years from now he'll make a kick ass Doctor Who.
