May. 14th, 2005 11:27 amLast night, I saw Evil Dead 2 on the big screen at the Naro. Groovy. It'd been a while since I'd seen it last, so I'd forgotten how funny it was. I need to dig out my VHS copies of both ED movies and have a marathon next week sometime. (I don't count Army of Darkness... AoD is a lot more "Hollywood" than it's predecessorts, heck, it was advertised in comics. Not like the others.)
But the best part of the evening was the after. Ten or so of us stood in front of the Naro talking movies, for an hour and a half. Til two am. Standing on the street. It was great. People who've seen the films I've seen, and want to see the films I want to see. We hit topics like Burton's Willie Wonka, Fulci's eye scene in Zombie, Japanese Horror, and George Romero.
It was nice; there was a good sense of "belonging" that'll keep me going for a couple of days.
I was sort of disappointed none of my friends could make it, but had any shown, I'd have missed out on the discussion.

I got a voice mail yesterday, explaining to me the background behind Malcom X's name. Like the fact that it's NOT a Roman numeral. Because, y'know, I need stuff like that explained to me. Because there's certainly no way a guy like ME would ever pick up The Autobiography of Malcom X. Or see the movie.
After all, I AM the guy who grew up in a neighbourhood where the Confederate flag still flies.

Sorry, just slightly bitter.
Next week- Jokes about Anne Frank, Matthew Shepard, Emmett Till, and Harvey Milk.
