I cuss. A lot. I try not to because I know WAY to many munchkins who don't need to hear that sort of language, and they won't here it from me. Usually it's in some sort of exclamatory manner. There are exclamations for bad stuff, and there are exclamations for good stuff. Same words, different tones. There are loosely three levels of good stuff: wow. S**t. and F**K.
I bought the 20th Anniversary edition of Tron today. AMAZING dvds, lots of great extras- including two that warranted me saying "F**K" when I saw them.
The first was the very first bit you get when you put in disc 1: a promo bit for Tron: Killer App. A sequel to Tron. Tron was the first movie with computer graphics... a heroes quest into the world of the computer. Not Virtual Reality. Not Cyberspace. Because when Tron came out, neither of these ideas were even conceptualized. It was Wonderland for a new millennium. It was magic.
The second was during the preview for Peter Pan 2. I'd heard about it. My initial reaction was oh, Disney remakes "Hook". Then I softened to the idea, but worried because most of the Disney sequels go directly to video, that is: not even good enough to show in theatres. So I check out the preview. Hook kidnapping Wendy's daughter. During the London Blitz. Searchlights. Air raid sirens. An RAF fighter squadron. And a flying pirate ship. F**K.
Some people will say that people with small vocabularies use language such as this. I say why bother with a plethora of words when one is sufficient.
NOTE TO MUNCHKINS: ** THE VELOCIRAPTOR RULE is still in effect. Yes, the kids in the movie used bad language. They were being chased by a velociraptor. When YOU are being chased by a velociraptor, you can use that language too. No, I'm not being chased by a velociraptor. I'm just a grumpy old man in training.
