May. 19th, 2005 08:09 amI don't want to see Star Wars. I don't know why.
I mean, I've been waiting for the volcano fight since I read about it in the liner notes to the soundtrack. The 33 1/3 LP soundtrack.
And the last two movies, I was there opening night.
But somewhere along the way, my values system shifted or something.
The last four movies I've seen in a theater were Godzilla, The Amityville Horror, The Evil Dead 2, and Inside Deep Throat. Two of them I saw at late shows, 11:30 for the vintage horror at the Naro. Amityville I saw at a 10:30 show. So, I've got no problem getting motivated to see a movie that'll get out late. All but Amityville were at the Naro, so I'm willing to make an effort to get over there if I want to see something bad enough.
And I got out of work at six last night, so there was time to get in line.
But I went home instead.
Maybe it's the grotesque level of media saturation. There are no less than four displays at work devoted to the damn thing. I've been looking at "product" for the last month and a half.
And M&Ms.
And now Burger King. (There is something kind of cool about a child clutching a Jabba they got from a Happy Meal though.)
So tonight, I'm going to go see Willie Porter & Chris Smither at the Granby. There'll always be another summer blockbuster. The print I see of Star Wars two weeks from now will be the same thing they saw last night. Live music, that's unique with every performance.
