She was talking to the manager about how the chain I work for needs to get over it's problem with POD books. I wanted to tell her she should get over her problem with real publishers.
I didn't.
I like my job too much.

There's a new trend toward using computer generated models on covers. This is creepy and soulless. The above mentioned pod author has this and it makes her first book look like SIMS porn. The "erotica" line of Ellora's Cave does this too. See, and be greatly afraid:

Actually, in accordance to the idea of "keepin' it real", gangsta fiction uses real models. Because nothing says "important social fiction" like a cover like this:
This is from Triple Crown Publications, the people who brought you Sheisty, and it's sequal, Still Sheisty Part 2. This leads to hours of fun explaining to customers that there's no Still Sheisty Part 1. As my co-worker Cassi loves to point out, the title's German.

I have become weak. I usually work pretty close to 40 hours a week, but rarely in regular daily week blocks (usually it's one day on, one day off, three days on, another off, and then the last day on, usually the closing shift). Right now I'm on day 5, tomorrow will be day 6. Not used to it and I'm becoming short tempered. Watch the News tomorrow, as I'll probably bite the head off a customer who's taking one of those mythical three day weekends I hear so much about. Also, this week I'm the opening guy four days out of five. This is some sort of punishment, I think, as I'm usually the night guy. Yes, I get to work at one pm, but I don't go home til quarter to ten. My internal clock's gonna be all messed up. This whole "daylight savings time" really makes it weird. When I go home, it should be dark. The sun hanging around so late is un-natural. Why haven't the fundamentalists twigged on to this? We're defying GOD here people. God wants it dark at seven pm. Day Light Savings Time says "God's Wrong." Surely there's a bunch of home-schooling gun-nuts I can introduce that idea to.

Sundays are the worst at the mall. I get there at 11, to do paperwork and stuff, and the mall doesn't open til noon. 11:05 is when the mall turns into "Dawn of the Dead". Shambling packs of the living dead, clinging to the gate at the front of the store. "Whut time doooo yoooo open up? We needs brains....."
I fill out the weekly reports thinking "You sure do."
