My cousin's son (like 9 or something) wants to watch scary movies, specifically the Blair Witch Project, so I volunteered to give her a list of suitable films.
This means I have to rewatch a bunch. MY only criteria: no nekkid. No boobs, no butts...
Aw, shucks. I WAS going to recommend Piranha. Less than five minutes in, there they are: BOOBS! Bras are ok, nipples are not. Replacing Piranha with Bats. Going with the nature amok them since the little monkey loves Eight Legged Freaks.
Looks like there's going to be a lot of John Carpenter in there too, I know The Fog is safe as is The Thing, and I'm *pretty* sure Prince of Darkness and In the Mouth of Madness are acceptable. I can't remember just how naughty the bedroom stuff is in Halloween.
The original Romero Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead are ok, even tho NotLD has a butt.
She was an artists model, so it's ok.
Gosh. I think someone's just thrown me into the briar patch.

My boyfriend, who may-as-well-be-husband now, had never seen a horror movie when we started dating. Strict Xtian upbringing and all that.

Granted, he's not nine - but no matter the age, when someone steeped in horror has to PICK, it's really weird.

You know, when I was seven or so, my favorite thing ever was to watch the late-night movie on scritchy, snowy TV, and they had the Universal classics. That's not a bad way to start at all (but half the fun was, I'm sure, that I was sneaking, up past my bedtime and all that.)

I started Tony out with DEAD ALIVE, which probably won't work in your case. But, yeah, briar patch galore...

I started watching horror movies when I was about 8 or 9, my brothers were much younger. Most of the ones we watched were the hacker slasher type. I do remember the ones that made the most impact were childs play, IT, and the nightmare on elm street series. After watching Childs play we destroyed all of our talking dolls mouths. After IT my little brother Richard (who was about 6 or 7 at the time, but is not so little in any more he's 6'5 and is over in Iraq experiencing the real horror now) was afraid of clowns for the longest time, clowns still creep him out. He also had many dreams about Freddy. I don't recall having any nightmares or even feeling weird about the occasional butt or boob.
I suggest to keep it to the creature films for now. Not too much blood and guts yet. You should work your way up to the ghost next. It so great to know that you are molding a young mind. My daughter is 5 and I have to be really aware of what she wants to watch and what she shouldn't, I do think that it should all be in moderation though. So don't over load him on the stuff like I was. My folks let us rent 2 movies a week and they didn't even care what we watched. I was cracked out on at least 9 hours a day on tv when I was 9.

Isn't it funny; people believe its ok for kids to see a boob torn from a woman's body as long as its covered. Is it just me or is the US of A just a little bass ackwards on the subject. Now I am not saying horror will screw a child up, lord knows I have watched it all my life and Clay can vouch for my psyche ...haha hoho heehee.
