Jul. 31st, 2005 12:37 amI've finished the second draft of the radio play. I've had one reader so far, he liked it but I'm factoring *some* degree of bias into his reaction. Now that I've given it a coat of polish, I've got to do a read aloud to time it. Sixty minutes exactly is the goal, falling short would be acceptable. I can not, must not run over. Then there's the question of casting and sound effects. I want this online by Halloween.

When not being productive or asleep or at work, I've been geeking. In the last week, I've picked up four episodes of the new Doctor Who-Rose, The End of the World, World War III and The Parting of the Ways.
British style acting, American style production values- It rocks.
I'll pick apart the episodes later, but one thing I've noticed in all of them is they deal with those left behind... the Doctor takes a companion from their daily existance, but what happens to the families of his companions? Posters asking "Have You Seen This Girl?" paper the neighborhood, the shock of a mother to her daughter's return, a year after disappearing, and the to-be-expected "why can't you tell me where you've been?" lend a human dimension that was largely missing from the earlier incarnation of the show.
Billie Piper is just magnificent as the shop-girl turned time-traveling assistant, turning culture shock to wonder as Rose begins to understand things, like yes, the woman on the space station is blue and has yellow cat type eyes, but the blue woman's a plumber. Rose knows what a plumber is.
Since The Parting of the Ways is the last episode this season, it's easy to contrast Rose from episode one to the Rose in episode thirteen. Miss Piper's got some pretty strong range as an actress. I think I'm going to have to keep an eye out for more of her stuff.
