Aug. 11th, 2006 03:17 amI had a Sazerac tonight at Empire.
I was sitting in the TCC courtyard on Granby when Dan walked by and invited me to join him and Mike at Empire, since Mike had his friend J in town from the left coast.
J was fascinating. Stories of working in the entertainment industry, as well as spirited discussion of broadcast politics- Pacifica on the left, Fox on the right and NPR somewhere in the middle.
It turns out she and I had met back in the Dark Ages- Pre CrazyTime- when I was house manager at the Stables Theatre and she worked at VSC. She said she'd seen "Caucasian Chalk Circle" there and I corrected her, reminding her that it was "The Good Woman of Setzuan." J thought for a moment and agreed, mentioning she'd only seen three Brecht plays. That's two more than me... and that's three more than most of the people I interact with, so the evening was an enjoyable one.
The Sazerac topped it off... it's actually part of Empire's regular menu, so I may have to start frequenting it more often.

There's a fun discussion on fanfiction, plagiarism and copyright law here. I've never properly understood the whole fanfic thing... I mean, I've played in other people's sandboxes before, but brought my own toys... the White Wolf group I used to belong to was pretty good on laying the smackdown on plagiarists; now a days, I just don't understand why anyone would WANT to use someone else's stuff- I can barely get out all my own ideas, why should I want to mess with someone else's?
