Dec. 7th, 2002 08:32 pmOk. Personally, I think few things should be *MANDATORY*. One of them should be, however, at least one viewing of LEGEND before a child turns... oh... fifteen. (Hear that B&b?) Legend, by Ridley Scott, is an amazing movie, which I was lucky to catch on tv tonight. (Stay clear of toadstool rings... and willow trees... and old oaks) All right, you have to ignore the presecne of TOM CRUISE and just appreciate Tom Cruise as the b-list star he was in 1985 (this was pre-Top Gun, remember).
The important thing is it's got UNICORNS. Dunno how the did it. Don't care. Just know that it's not CGI.
Tim Curry plays Satan. In more make up than he wore in Rocky Horror Picture Show, Curry is the movie's standout. I haven't seen this movie in probably ... good lord... in ten years, but I remembered his lines from the beginning. He's cool. He's evil.
The soundtrack is by Tangerine Dream... with that euro-texchno vibe to it; but Brian Ferry and Jon Anderson have the two songs, Ferry's slow and decadent makes a nice contrast to ANderson's new agey piece.
I'm very partial to the music, having come into a copy of it on cassette after the passing of a friend of mine... yes, it's true, my music tastes are patterned after those of a dead nineteen year old girl. (she was so sweet I could eat her brains like jam)
NOTE- the parenthetic statements are from the movie...
Anyway, this movie possesses a sense of wonder that really beats most modern cynicism.... mine at least. It still gives me a ooooooooooooooooh reaction, at least til I start *thinking* about it. It's not a movie to think about or analyze, just something to appreciate.... like a unicorn...
