Jan. 15th, 2003 12:41 amHoly cow... I just realized I went over three days without a computer. I'm making up for it of course, now that I'm home, but I guess I CAN deal with not having net access for a couple of days. Please note: that's probably the last time I'll ever say that.

"Honogurai mizu no soko kara"- "Dark Water" to us English speakin' folks. It's cold and damp and creepy as hell. If you get a chance to see this movie, by the director of Ringu, do it- buy it, rent it, what have you, just see it. I was lucky enough to pick it up in Chinatown on VCD, about a single mother fighting for custody of her child; it's not enough that she's on the ropes due to her soon to be ex husband, having to move, having to find a job, but the ceilings in her building leak ominously, and almost continuously. Having dealt with a leaky ceiling, I know how helpless you feel as your world goes all nuts, your property threatened with a force more unstoppable than a fire when it gets started*. Then there's the little matter of a girl her daughter's age who disappeared a few years ago. It's a subtle, quiet horror film, very "The Others". My only complaint is the epilogue, which still carries the feel of the movie, but in an afterthought on sort of way.
* yeah I know it sounds like an exaggeration, but a fire you can put out. a leak has to be found, and during a rain storm, as it's seeping through the roof, into the timbers and out along joints and light fixtures, you know you can't stop it. So you call your parents and have a small nervous collapse.
