Jun. 2nd, 2003 03:11 pmSo. It's been over a month since I've updated my journal. It's not that I haven't been writing, it's just all my words are going into "works in progress". So at some point I actually may have something published, either online or !!! in the real world.
I'm managing to get about 750 to 1000 words a day, with maybe one or two days off due to laziness or fatiague.
I've been to the movies twice already this blockbuster season, Matrix and X-Men. The film I really want to see, Bollywood Hollywood hasn't opened in the states yet, same for 28 Days Later, tho I've seen that already thanks to the internet. And for the record, I plan to destroy my copy as soon as the DVD becomes available because I do plan to purchase it.
Same for House of a Thousand Corpses. Right now, it's just eating up space on my hard drive. I saw it opening day. I enjoyed it, tho friends, weened on Scream and I know What you Did Last Summer, didn't appreciate it. I want to see Wrong Turn because apparently, despite the cast of WB refugees in it, it's done in that same TCM style.
I've been reading a lot of pulp lately, Doc Savage and The Shadow, to get a feel for how they plotted. These guys tossed out like a novel a month in their hey day. Lester Dent, the author of the Doc Savage pulps, even went so far as to publish his formula. That kind of discipline I lack. Of course, that was their job. Then there are authors who craft their works. Caitlin Kiernan, for instance. I've been following her online journal and it's amazing to see the kind of dedication she puts into her work. Writing is her "job" because it's how she pays the bills, but she's also the consummate artist- here's a link to an excerpt from her forthcoming novel Low Red Moon.
I picked up a double pack of videos the other day. Honest to gosh VHS tapes: Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. "Love Dead. Hate Living." Four little words that mean so much. Oddly enough, they've become my mantra for the last week or so. Bitter much?
I'm going to try and pickup Gods and Monsters soon. It's about the last days of James Whale, the director of the above Frankenstein movies. It's starring Ian McKellen, who's played Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and Magneto in the X-Men. He's also in one of my old favourites, The Keep.
I've played poker a couple of times with some of the fellows from Kincaids. Good thing I've got other things to keep my mind busy, like writing, because I could easily see myself getting into playing poker way too much for my own good. My craft keeps me pure.
Right.
I've been working on losing weight. I've lost 14 pounds over the last few weeks, from 196 to 182. My goal is 175. I've stopped drinking. Empty Calories. Plus it's cheaper.
Actually, I've given up alcohol because I've found religion. Ia! Ia! Ctuhlhiu ftghaten!
More Later.
