Sep. 1st, 2007 08:50 pmAt the parents' house for the weekend.
outside on the deck. They took down the porchlights so I'm typing by touch, so pardon typos, will spell check later.
Crickets. A great chorus of crickets. And Howling dogs in the distance.
Aside from that... silence.
The stars are brighter here than at home, the sky darker.
Good thing I love my parents so much... and that they've got kickbutt fast intarwub and cable, 'cause I'd other wise go bugfark crazy. Not even nine-o'clock and... so much silence.
Of course, were it a month from now and on a friday, I'd be griping about the neanderthal rythmns from the "Art Brandriff" sports arena and football.
Brandriff was the principal at the highschool when I attended and I can't help but imagining him placeing a crown upon his own head when they opened the stadium.
Humbug.
When I was in highschool, we had a world class- literally- Olympics (now Odyssey) of the Mind team and the football team sucked. Guess who got the funding. Bastards.
Weird day. Been thinking about J. I was writing this morning and I was thinking about footprints and craters and from there I went to the Chesapeake Bay- one huge ass meteor crater. Back in 86-87 I was in the science club. (shut up.)
One of the field trips we went on was to canoeing in the Chesapeake Bay. Our guide- I can't remember her name but J. called her Clytemnestra- made us repeat after her:"The Chesapeake Bay is an estuary."
Prior to this morning I don't think I've thought of that in years. Maybe even over a decade.
A friend of mine is teaching in Canada soon and invited me up to visit. This was back when I could afford the trip and the time off. So I'm not going. But every so often I think about taking off to the SF Bay area to find J.
I know that if I had an intrepid female sidekick with a white car-yes, Lisa, you- I'd find him in no time.
It's getting to be like eight years since I've seen him and I'd like to find him before it becomes a decade.
We'll see, I guess.
