Yesterday as I was crossing Duke St on the way home, a car came short of running me over.
I usually walk fairly arrogantly across the crosswalk, assured that the magical octagon will do its thing, but this guy didn't see to see the sign and shreiked to a stop less than a foot from me.
I think he was a freaked out as I was, his eyes wide as I screamed "STOP SIGN" at him while pointing at the sign.  He apologized, saying he hadn't been paying attention.
I got to the safety of the sidewalk and screamed "Stop Sign" at him again, glaring at him as he drove off.
There was a couple there walking their dog, and I apologized for yelling.
They understood and we chatted for a minute about how dangerous the corner is.
I told them if I get hit, I want to get hit by someone on their cellphone.

Before work yesterday I picked up two dvds at the dollar store- a Vampire Double Feature and a Frankenstein Double Feature.  I watched one of the Frankenstein movies last night- Jesse James Meets Frankenstein's Daughter.  Yeah, it was worth a dollar.
Watching The Vampire Bat with Fay Wray tonight.  It's worth two dollars, and the second feature is Lugosi in The Devil Bat.
Fun stuff.

The new supermarket is open.  I picked up a burrito and some chocolate milk to use in my coffee tomorrow.
Figuring what I spend at resturants and recreating meals in my own kitchen, I'll be saving some money.
Plus, I can treat myself occasionally with stuff from the bakery or the sushi case.
Yumtastic.

Last year ome lady in a Chevy Tahoe rolled through a crosswalk here and knocked me straight on my bum. When I got up she started screaming at me. People need to watch where they're going.

Yikes! Glad you're okay. There are losers like that driver everywhere, and dangerous intersections scattered around. I avoid such intersections like the plague. There is one right outside of where I work, and it is a rare week when I do not hear a *screech*/*crash* as a driver blithely ignores the stop light. I walk all the way around the block to cross at a safer intersection, even though it adds three blocks' worth of distance to my path.

You have invested in some cook books for your new home chef gig? I highly recommend going to some used book store and picking up some really ancient cook books. I snagged "Betty Crocker's NEW PICTURE cook book" (apparently the ten pages with colour photos were quite the rage back then) for a mere dollar. While the exact recipes are not useful, as they often call for several gallons of rendered lard per serving, they have useful information like "when cooking an X, cook for Y minutes per pound or inch thick".
