Sep. 28th, 2007 09:08 amA perfect breakfast today.
I've finally figured out how to butter the frying pan juuuuuuust right so the eggs aren't too greasy and how long to let them cook before flipping.
I'm going to fine tune it some more, of course, once I get some real bacon. The precooked stuff is ok, but there's just something... off about it. It's the bacon smell. Cooked bacon should fill my apartment with the smell, but no.
Aside from that, perfect.

Those little creamers they have at diners? You can find them at the supermarket now. I've been using a small bottle of chocolate milk, but I'm not going to use it all before it turns, so the box o' creamers is heaven sent.

Dinner last night was a chickenbreast over a bed of rice and peas, the peas left over from a can I opened on Tuesday. I think I'll stick with tender slices rather than the full breast since the one I got last night was too thick. Both sides had cooked to golden but the center was still pink, so I took it out of the pan and made a butterfly cut- I think that's what it's called- to spread it open and finished it up like that.
I cooked the rice in the microwave, half a cup last night, but I'll just used a quarter cup from now on. After it was done cooking, I dumped the peas on top. I nuked the rice in a Pyrex bowl that comes with a tight lid, so I locked the lid down and flipped it over to let the rice heat the peas.
Carbs and protein. Eating healthy.

Gracious. I've turned into a food blog, haven't I?

There's a blogger at Pilotonline, where I have my other blog, who occasionally uses the word "G-d" in her writing. Now, I know why. Respect for the name of God. The thing is, contextually, she's not really referring to God, but to the secular "god" that's referred to when most people refer to in "oh my god." The line that made me notice this:
"My favorite scene is in the bathroom at the truck stop. Those feet, oh my G-d. It's so horror--ible."
If it's a matter of respect, then just avoid it in the first place. Either "goodness" or "gracious" would have worked just as well.
Just something that's been on my mind off and on for a while. I've got some netfriends who are people of faith, good, strong faith and I started avoiding the use of god as a exclamatory term out of respect for them- yes, I know I should be doing out of respect for Him, but really He's got more important things to pay attention to, right?- and now "goodness" and "gracious" come more readily when I'm blogging.
I do not sound like an octogenarian maiden aunt.

Bumper music on Marketplace on NPR today is kind of ... weird. Maybe they're just enjoying the idea of Friday. They just ended a bit on Marie Antoinette's pearls going on sale at Christie's soon with a Stairway To Heaven bit. And for a series on morning commutes, they started the segment with a some of Ozzy Osborne's Crazy Train.

I don't go in til eleven today, so I slept in a little- it was almost seven when I got out of bed.

Oh, and because I feel I should share the horror: (from Boing Boing)
