Friday was blissfully uneventful. Left home at 7 something am, good drive to the farm. Lots of Kudzu. Evil Dead house still there. When we pulled up, I noticed some white patches on the porch. Mom said it was fungus. It wasn't. And people wonder where I get my sense of humour from.
The Parents took a nap when we got there, while I made up for lost smoke time. Read some of The Wraiths of Will and Pleasure.
Lunch at a place called the Lighthouse. Small town luncheon restaurant next to the Lighthouse hotel, complete with a beacon and everything. Stopped at a antiquarian bookstore that faintly reeked of "snob". I wasn't too impressed when I saw that he'd filed "Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil" in fiction. Wrong, wrong, wrong!
Dad wanted me to point it out to him, but really, he wasn't worth it.
We went for a leiausely drive, ended up in Danville. Found a nice used bookstore, bought a copy of a Michael McDowell novel, as well as a T.E.D. Klein collection. On the way out of Danville, I notriced a historical marker for "The Danville Train". The it hit me. DANVILLE. I said "Danville, we're in Danville." and my mother was like "yes. and?" I told her I'd seen the marker and her response was "they wrote a song about it." and my dad offered to show me where it happened.
Dinner at a little resturant, home cooking style. It was nice. Watched Casablanca on DVD. neither parent had seen it before. I've seen it on the big screen.
Was in bed by 11:30.
Up by 7 am. Good lord 2 days in a row, up before 7am, On the road to Newmarket as I wirte this. Look out the window. Jeezus Christ, It's a sheer drop a kijillion feet. I *HATE* riding in the mountains.
It's so... green. If theres any other reason to hate kudzu, it's the green.
more later.
Picked up an Angela Carter collection at another used bookstore. Nice.
Dinner at an Italian place. Eggplant parmagian.
Watched Drop Dead Georgous. Excellent parody of pagents and reality tv.
Read Wraiths and was in bed by midnight.
Up early to finish Wraiths before we left the farm, wrote a review enroute home. Lunch was left over doggybag eggplant. Dinner at Applebees. After dining at places where the waitresses call you "hon" and mean it, the fake "hi guys, I'm crystal and i'll be your server" was even more annoying than ever.
Home now. Glad to be back, if only because I've gained 5lbs due to the sedantary nature of riding in cars.
