Isabel Aftermath 2
Sep. 19th, 2003 05:24 amI got my six hours sleep and woke up about three am. Went to look at the Hague and even tho it was hightide, it wasn't too bad. Met a nieghbour who mentioned Rite Aid was open so I walked up to 21st st. Bought a coke and some licorice. Real nutritious, I know.
The walk there was amazing. For the first time in recent memory, the sky was not it's usual rose quartz pink- it was dark out, but the moon provided enough light to see by. I saw stars. So many stars, I'd forgotten what the night sky really looks like. I saw Orion's Belt! Such a simple thing, but so nice.
There were several downed trees on Colonial Ave, and as i went around one, I saw a downed line. Not sure what type. Did something stupid- I stepped over it. I took an alternate route back, but... sometimes I think I just don't think sometimes. ; )
There was a certain "I Am Legend" creepyness to the walk home, I encountered a few others out and was SURE they were going to lunge at my neck, teeth bared, hissing. That's it, no more scary movies for Clay. But really, there was a certain "end of the world" feel that silence and darknes and solitude brings. Now I'm ready for power. Am wondering if the mall will be open today- "well, we're sorry you don't have power, but we do: come to work." I have 12 minutes left on my battery. Hopefully I'll be back soon.
