(no subject)
Feb. 17th, 2009 10:57 pmI recently had interactions via email with someone who underestimated me.
Maybe that's giving her too much credit- she was insulting my intelligence with a fairly obvious lie and I called her on it.
A friend of mine asked why I bothered expending the energy and I told him I'm not going to let someone get away with that. It then occurred to me- WWJSD- What Would Julia Sugarbaker Do?
Well, she'd tell that woman, politely yet firmly, No.
No, you aren't going to lie to me.
No, you aren't going to talk to me like I'm stupid, and
No, I won't take it.
Because I work retail, I have to take it... but things are going to be changing soon.
Soon, I'll be able to say "No."
And it'll feel good.

Julia has been on my mind lately, because a cd we listened to this weekend had the Vicki Lawrence song "The Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia" on it.
What a stupid song.
One- if the lights had gone off because of a power drain on the grid during an electrocution, sure... but not during a hanging.
Two- the judge may have bloodstains on his hands, but (SPOILER ALERT) the narrator is a killer... she killed her brother's wife and the wife's boyfriend.
Three- the narrator may have loved her brother enough to KILL his unfaithful wife, but not enough to come forward to declare his innocence.
That said, it's a classic bit of seventies hillfolk nostalgia and hey, it did give Julia the best part of one of her finest monologues on Designing Women.
