I realized I've set my sights too high. A thousand words on a short topic is, right now, a little heavy for me. Five hundred words, however, is just right. At the rate I'm at, I'm ahead of the game. GO me!
First, my somewhat... disorganized initial attempt. Then Variety, next the bookstore.
Of course the master of bookstore essays is Stephen Lukac, author of Oogie Boogie Central and a collection of essays But Then Again, You'll Have This.
There's my muse, my hero. I want to be him when I grow up.

I've made my reservations, and I've bought my ticket. Four days from now, I'm going to be away. Exmore, Virginia, an hour and a half away by bus. This is the first time I'll be traveling by bus, and I'm intrigued. I have been, actually, since I read a story in the local paper on bus travel by Mike D'Orso. This was... sometime ago. The Greyhound station here in town is kind of remarkable in an architecturally speaking. Visually, the interior has remained unchanged since the early seventies. I was able to confirm this since it's actually featured in the Jack Nicholson movie, The Last Detail.
Nostalgia is my main draw on the trip. According to a coworker, there's a mom-and-pop movie theatre that actually mixes it's fountain drinks, old fashioned style.
Aside from that, there's not really much there, and after the Christmas chaos, not much is exactly what I need.
