January Reading List
Jan. 31st, 2004 01:20 amThankfully, my resolution wasn't to be kinder to illiterate, slack jawed, mouth breathing morons. So I'm not.
But since it was to read more non-fiction, here's a list of what I've done so far:
The Art of Deception
The Tipping Point
The Popcorn Report
Lords of Chaos
Deadly Feasts
Virus X
And The Waters Turned To Blood
Kingdom of Fear
Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas
Deception dealt with computer and corporate security.
Tipping Point and Popcorn both dealt with social trends.
Lords of Chaos dealt with a different kind of social trend: church burning, heavy metal satanists.
Feasts, Virus and And the Waters... all were about bio threats (BSE, Ebola, and Pfiesteria)
Kingdom and Fear & Loathing were both Hunter S. Thompson.
Thompson was the inspiration for Spider Jerusalem, the protagonist of one of the two fiction bits I've read this month- Transmetropolitan: Back on the Street.
The other one was Global Frequency: Planet Ablaze. Both are by Warren Ellis, best described as one of THE futurists to watch. Not a bad comic book author either.
Looking at the list, thinking- wow, nonfiction can be just as enjoyable as fiction.
