One of my classmates from high school lost her mother this morning. Reading about it made me realize: yes, if I'm getting old, my parents are getting older.

Hmmm.

Yeah, we'll never catch up to them. My mom swore she would sell off the house and check herself into a nursing home as of five years ago (she swore it a decade before then). Then again, she's of decent health, if deteriorating a bit mentally, and seems to be doing tolerably.
