Feb. 8th, 2002 01:20 amPeggy Lee's dead... so's Sinatra. I saw an ad for "Sinatra's Greatest Hit's" a few minutes ago and it got me thinking about lyrics again. Keep me away from razorblades.
So there's this song- The Way You Look Tonight. They both did a cover of it. His is this "let's get old together" ballad. Her's is ... regretful. "Here I am, old and alone, but I'm thinking about you... and it was wonderful then. And now you're gone. Because you're a rat."
I really need my father to burn me a Beach Boys cd. Aside from "In my room" they're wonderfully upbeat. Was there an "Eternal Summer" group for the nineties? For the sixties and seventies, there were the Beach Boys. For the eighties, there was the Go-Gos. Both were very Los Angeles, Summer, and even the "less upbeat" numbers of both bands had a certain ... "je ne sais quoi" about them saying "sunshine", "beach", "party"!! I think the era of the eternal summer has passed. The world's too... jaded. Maybe it ended when Frankie and Annette went Back to the Beach. We still never saw her naval, Walt bless her.
