Feb. 17th, 2002 11:04 pmHad an interruption to my phone service so I've been off line for about a week. A week of pure unadulterated hell.
Glad to be back online.
catching up with my email was easy- deleted 90% of the stuff, reply to the other 10%.
Then I had to catch up to the discussion groups I follow. *Then* I had to catch up with all the drama in my friends lives via their journals. (btw- I originally wrote that PRIOR to checking journals for the record)
Plus as I was offline my computer got cleaned up- cleared away a gigs worth of junk. NOW to fill it up again. Newest obsession: The NPR 1988 production of War of the Worlds. SOMEONE on audiogalaxy has it.
Am watching the Ice Dancing on the Olympics.... pretty cool. The Canadians just danced to the "Cell Block Tango" Tango from Chicago. That got points from me.
OK- is it me or does the hat for the Olympians look like... well something that a deck hand in the Russian Navy would wear?
1984... Sarajevo. Jeezus. There's something... surreal about looking at footage form the Winter Olympics... and thinking about what it's like now. It's making a comeback, and they're lobbying for the 2010 Winter Olympics. That's pretty redeeming
The Simpsons went to Toronto tonight. I'm going in twelve days... the closer it gets, the... odder things are. Finding Canadian coinage all over the place.
OK- there's this rule- Thoth probably knows what it is- once something happens, it happens alot. What's that called?
Earlier this week, I was less than familiar with curling- for some reason I thought it was like bocce ball. Then I saw it on the Olympics. Yesterday I picked up a video for .99 - The Best of This Hour Has 22 Minutes- and theres a faux Labats ad featuring curling, then tonight on the Simpsons theres a curling joke, and I was surfing the net and came across this discussion of the punishments in Dante's Inferno:
Treacherous to Kin and Country
Okay, the fuckers who betrayed random bonds of genes or nationality are stuck in ice, with their heads stuck up above the ice. There is no mention of demons holding a curling meet, but I'm sure it happens. You're a demon, it's your day off, you've got a rock and a broom and some dead sinners with their heads above the ice, what else are you going to do? D+
Just find this interesting. Waiting for the Hague to freeze so I can try it out.
As I write this they're playing the Canadian national anthem... no, it's not the song from the Molson commercial.
Anyway I found the Dante's stuff on www.brunching.com... my bookmarked link is from a Geek Hierarchy flowchart- from there I went to the main page where there's a review of Canadian Snack Foods/Canadiens Casse-Croûte.
Hopefully I can put links to all this stuff in when I transfer it to my journal writer. I'm doing this in notepad right now.

Date: 2002-02-17 09:44 pm (UTC)CBC1 is intermittant right now due to coverage of the Olympics. As long as I have it in the morning, that's the important bit. Sad really. I have a better idea of the weather up there and traffic on the 401 than I do of the weather outside my window... and well, as I walk to work (and everywhere else) I don't really care abt traffic in Norfolk.
