Last month Google launched an e-mail program called Gmail that gives customers 1 GB of e-mail storage in exchange for letting Google's computers scan the content of incoming e-mails to seed them with related text ads. Gmail customers agree to let a computer read their e-mail.
Ok. So I've seen some people lately say "I've got a g-mail acct." Is this one of the "perks" of having one? How is it different from yahoo or hotmail or even some of the ummm fun ones like the addresses at cbrmail.com: xxx@globalfrequency.org, @smallvillehigh.net, @xavierinstitute.net.

Friday, I was sitting in front of the mall, smoking and reading before work when a tourist asked directions to the MacArthur Memorial. I told him, and he said "arigato". I smiled and nodded in return. It was a lovely moment because, for an instant, I was in some wonderfully diverse city, where you hear people chatting in any number of languages while walking down the street. I think that's why I love the Azalea Festival, when there's a huge influx of representives from the NATO countries visiting the area. It was definately the best part of OpSail, sitting on the corner of Main St & Martin's Lane, listening to the sailors and the tourists, Russian, German, Spanish...
Maybe someday I'll see the Big City. Join the Circus and never come home.
(not bloody likely) [Gee, the Big City. My brain would probably pop from sensory overload. I know what San Francisco did to me, and I'm still feeling the effects of Toronto

(not bloody likely) [Gee, the Big City. My brain would probably pop from sensory overload. I know what San Francisco did to me, and I'm still feeling the effects of Toronto <just can't get enough of Tim Horton's Coffee>, so I figure I'm probably safe right here at home. (yes, Rogue, I used the word *safe*; I know my limitations and I've got a great big ol' comfort zone- why go to the world, when I can bring the world to me- radio and news from Mumbai and Beijing. I'm quite the worldly websurfer.]

Friday night, after work, I went to Kincaids, alone for the first time since January when they instituted their smoking policy. Thanks guys- you've helped me save more money than any budget could ever have. This was written Friday:
Sirens gathering one block over. I'll catch it on the news. Back at Kincaids, seriously back, for the first time in months. I've got my laptop plugged into a wall socket, so no more of this waiting for the battery to die. I got money in my account. So it's take a nerd to dessert night. Chartreuse on the rocks and a burnt creme.
Mosquitos are curiously absent, though I think the nicotined sludge coursing through my veins would be enough to kill anything foolish enough to feed off me.
The burnt creme was certainly cremey, but it wasn't very burnt. I've had it there before, when the crust was so nicely carmelized that you had to apply a little pressure to break the surface. Then each little shard of hard sugar would just dissapate in your mouth. Heaven. Tonight it wasn't Heaven; it was more along the order of just "heaven".
Watching CSI on the computer. It's the Furry Episode. Still need to show it to Rogue.
-end friday entry-

I've been sniffling and sneezing a lot lately and I just figured out why: I'm cleaning up my apartment and I'm kicking up dust. I smoke and I burn incense- so moving things around, sweeping, wiping, and um... domestic stuff is churning up all the fine little microparticles that have coated my little room nicely. I *knew* it couldn't be a cold- I'm too mean for germs.

I've noticed in some of my friends' LJs they've mentioned there was some sort of holiday this weekend. Somehow I missed it- I had to work. But I got time and a half as well as holiday pay for the fourth so I won't complain too loud. And after work Sunday I went to a picnic held at my friend Mike's house in Portsmouth. Coworker (and friend) Andie got me there. Got to chat with her mom abt books- new Lincoln Childs/ Douglas Preston novel coming soon!
Guess I shouldn't forget the food:
Mmmm. Crabs. I so enjoy any food you can dismember and eviscerate by hand. And grilled tenderloin. Prepared with- get this- grilled lime. Mike sliced the lime in half and grilled it with the meat. Squeeze the lime over the meat, pulp and all, and it tasted like Dijon mustard. Simple chemistry, he said. Simply delightful, I say.
Pecan Pie. Peach Cobbler. Somethin involving cake, jello, topping, strawberries and blueberries.
The only thing missing was a wafer thing mint.
