Aug. 20th, 2004 03:41 amI got about three and a half pages done on The Christmas Chapter today. This will be my "love letter" to working retail durning the holidays, and I should watch myself, since I could easily turn this into the biggest part of the book; it's not (I think right now) as important to the progression of the story as its a character piece, as well as Christmas eve being a big retail event.
(does that make sense? my contacts are out. i'm really writing this because i can't sleep. i think i need a new futon; haven't had a full nights rest in months... if it's not the bed, it's the empty stomach rumbles. need to take a couple of days and catch up on the whole eating/sleeping thing.)
Yes, that means retail plays a big part of it.
Something to remember- from David Sedaris's Santaland Diaries:
"You're going to have me fired? I'm going to have you killed."

Before I forget:
Spent the day with my family a couple of days ago. I got to listen to music in my mothers SUV... one with a NICE stereo system. Limelight by RUSH came on and since she wasn't there I got to turn it up. WAY UP. RAP MUSIC LOUD. Just the way I think Geddy Lee intended, actually. The rearview mirror vibrated in time with the music.
I'm not sure if it was the harmonics, but just. for. a. minute... I was euphorically tears down my face happy. I understand now why some people need to do drugs.
Later that day, I had dinner with my parents at Harbor Park... dinner and a baseball game, the resturant overlooking ummm rightfield. (The area behind first base... yeah, sports terminology isn't exactly my thing. especially at three thirty in the morning.) It was more of a "spending time with family" exercise than anything, tho I did enjoy the game. The food didn't suck. Buffet style, prepared for sports fans, designed to be accompanied with beer. You go the math.
Lately, I've been eating for what the food provides me as much as the taste- lunch at Chilis- half a turkey sandwhich (turkey, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese and bacon), fries, and a cup of chicken enchilada soup.
Proteins. Carbs. Good carbs... the kind that get burnt off running all over the store.

Let's try this sleep thing again...
